FAQ: Behavior
Behavior
- What do you do to prevent bullying at your school?
- What type of discipline plan is in place to handle bad behavior?
We are fortunate to have active families and extremely well behaved students. This combination lends itself well to making sure that behavior does not impede on the learning of our students. We have character traits that we focus on throughout the year, as part of our lessons and school culture. When situations do arise where they may be a concern regarding teasing or bullying, we take these situations very serious and will investigate the situation by talking with all of the students involved and make decisions based on the severity of the situation. We do have a detailed policy in regards to bullying (Administrative Policy D.6), which identifies what needs to happen in regards to investigations and safety plans. If through the investigation we determine that bullying has been occurring, we will develop a plan to ensure that it stops, and that students are treated with respect and able to focus on their academics at school.
What type of discipline plan is in place to handle bad behavior?
PPA, Jr. will minimaly follow the PCSB Code of Student conduct in regards to behavioral infractions. We have developed a plan based very similar to the one used at PPA, which can be accessed online by clicking here. This system involves two separate types of “infractions,” first is a “COA” (Consequence of Action) where teachers can send a note home to let you know if there is a problem. These do not require office intervention, but are seen as a way of keeping communication open between school and home. If there are more serious issues happening which require office intervention, then there are Office Referrals, where the student meets with an administrator and there are usually more severe consequences. PPA, Jr. is a school where academics are the priority, and if behavior starts interfering with the learning process it will be dealt with, and parents agree to our policies whereas if the student receives a certain number of referrals, they could potentially be reassigned to another school.
